Celtic Knot Jewelry Symbolism

Celtic Knot Jewelry Symbolism

Celtic knot jewelry symbolism as vast as the types of Celtic knots and Celtic symbols.  We will look at one type of Celtic knot necklace symbolism in this post. The Celtic necklace or Celtic pendant involved in this look at Celtic knot jewelry symbolism is the Triquettra or Trinity knot. It's one symbol with two sets of symbolism.

This trinity Celtic knot necklace, as it is mostly commonly know was given that name when the Christians started to get heavily involved with the Celts.  The three sided knot was given the name of the "trinity knot" because each side or each corner represented the Christian Holy Trinity.

But before the trinity knot was known as such, it was called a Triquetra knot.  It is common in Celtic symbolism to have various numbers involved in the meaning of the symbolism. The same three corners or three sides apply to the triquettra symbol. The three sides from a Celtic perspective mean past, present and future.  There are other symbols of three that have been assigned to the Triquetra necklace such as Maiden, Mother and Crone or Earth Heaven and Underworld.

As you can see, the Trinity or Triquetra Celtic necklace is rich with symbolism for both the Christian and the Celtic fan.

The circle involved with some versions of the Triquetra or Trinity knot are typically meant to be associated with the Christian Trinity symbolism given what the Celtic circle meaning is. It is symbolic of eternal round or eternity. That goes better with the trinity knot necklace.
